About my Artwork

I have recently classified my current paintings into a category i have dubbed conceptual narrative
after finding that all exact categories failed to encompass its true nature.
Not in an egotistical sense mind you, but because of the varied amount of elements in the work.
I cant describe it exactly as abstract, or representational, or color field, or still life, or ect, ect.

The visual subject generally involves ideas and/or objects removed from their context and transformed into symbols
or iconographic images, and thus given a deeper societal and spiritual definition.
These painterly objects and/or schematically drawn ideas then weave the narrative
into a story of comparison, relationship, and definition.

Seeking to illustrate the reality behind the physical world, I rely upon a balance between direct observation,
symbolic interpretation, and personally stylized color & form to convey my messages.

Lately my drawings have served a very different purpose than my paintings. My drawings, collages, and
other non-paint based creations, are often concerned with the reality of the physical world.

Political and religious icons often show up. Ideals created by mass media and culture are explored.
Many of the drawings are concerned with the standardization of ideal beauty.
The whole concept of what beauty is - as related to time period, geographic location, and culture.
Documentation of current events is important in the drawings, and commentary with a cynical air occurs often.

I generally use my drawing as a reflection and comment on that which is worldly.
I reserve the painting as a reflection of the eternal and cosmic contained in the temporal world.
